How to Make Friends in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Friends

Hong Kong Friends is a community for Winchester College OWs, parents (current, past and prospective), alumnae and friends from the Hong Kong community who are interested in helping support the school. All donations made to The Friends are tax-deductible for Hong Kong taxpayers and the proceeds help support local students, including a growing number of Hong Kong alumni at Winchester.

Getting Involved with Societies and Clubs

There are lots of societies, clubs and events in Hong Kong that you can join to meet other expats. Many of these are based around a particular interest or hobby such as tennis, embroidery or even horticulture.
These are a great way to socialise and meet people who share similar interests, making it easier to form lasting friendships. These clubs and societies also offer a range of activities, from workshops to day trips.

Taking part in sports is a great way to meet new friends and make new ones in Hong Kong, particularly as most of these clubs are located in the city centre. Whether you’re into running, cycling or football, you’ll be sure to find one that’s right for you and your interests.

Another great way to meet new friends is through social media. There are plenty of groups on Facebook that are specifically dedicated to helping new Hong Kong residents make connections. There are plenty of helpful people on these groups, and they’ll be more than happy to give you tips on where to meet your new friends in the city.

Get Creative

The arts are hugely popular in the UK and Hong Kong, so why not get involved with a new art class or workshop? There are lots of courses available in a range of different disciplines. You’ll find that the classes and workshops are inexpensive, making them a great way to get creative and meet new people in the process.

Make New Friends As a Parent

If you’re a parent living in Hong Kong, it can be hard to find new friends to share your adventures with, especially if you don’t have children of your own yet. Luckily, you’ll find that people in the city are generally very friendly and fun – it’s easy to make friends here as long as you approach them with open arms.

Take a Break to Have Some Fun

It’s easy to get caught up in work and family commitments in Hong Kong. If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, there are plenty of parks and outdoor spaces where you can enjoy a quiet walk or a good book with a friend.

You can also try some new activities that don’t require a lot of physical activity, like a yoga session or a relaxing bubble bath! If you’re not sure where to start, check out HK Ticketing and Klook for beginner-level workshops that are available for a variety of different interests.

Become a Disney Fan

If you’re a fan of the iconic mouse, then there’s no better place to be than at Hong Kong Disneyland! The park is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and guests will be able to experience a whole host of special events that celebrate the magic that has been created by Walt Disney. Among these celebrations will be a series of special Duffy and Friends experiences at the park, featuring character greetings with the beloved characters. In addition, a new 30-minute show titled “StellaLou’s Wonderful Wishes Ballet” will debut this spring at the Disney Storybook Theater in Fantasyland.
