Facebook Groups
While many Hong Kongers have switched to other social media platforms, such as Instagram and BeReal, there are still a number of dedicated Facebook groups for Hong Kong expats that can be a great way to connect with fellow Hongkongers. These groups are helpful for organising group outings, sharing information on upcoming events and meeting up with fellow expats in your area. Some of these groups also include forums where you can discuss any issues or concerns that you might have and share tips on how to deal with them.

Having been through the political protests and Covid scare of 2019, it’s no wonder that some residents are feeling ready to leave Hong Kong. CNBC reports that a “brain drain” of professionals is accelerating as Covid restrictions and what some residents see as erosion of democratic norms push them out. Those leaving say they’ve stuck it out for two years, but the strain is taking its toll and that they can’t take it anymore.
In an effort to support those making a fresh start in the UK, Warwickshire County Council is hosting the first Friendship Festival, to give a warm welcome to those arriving under the British National Overseas visa scheme. Those who attend the event will be treated to a variety of different foods, music and children’s entertainment, along with cultural stalls, as a way to ease the transition into life in the West Midlands. It’s hoped that the festival will help Hongkongers feel at home and build their new lives in Britain.
