“What is more important: freedom or security?” -Joe Gibbs. The Lesson. To begin, ask yourselves the following: “What do you need to achieve in your professional career?” Do you already have a definite career goal? Do you even know what you wish to be capable of doing in your professional career?
If you answered yes to both questions, you have come to the right place because this Lesson will teach you how to take the necessary actions in order to become worthy of freedom and security. As Joe Gibbs said, “If you have not arrived at a destination by the time you set off, then you are running in circles. If you arrive by reaching your destination, you will find that you are no longer where you started, but in a different place.” So how do we get from where we started to where we want to go? Let’s go back to our question, “What is more important: freedom or security?”
Freedom and security is easier to achieve, and more fun to live, when living a less demanding and more minimalist lifestyle. A minimalist lifestyle, by definition, is one in which you invest the majority of your time and attention in activities that produce the greatest amount of joy and fulfillment. You have less time, and you utilize activities that produce a great deal of gratification. Your relationships with other people are enhanced, and you have more energy, happiness, and time to share with others.
However, let’s take a look at the modern world and see what kind of lifestyle we usually associate with minimalism. In the professional realm, you will often find yourself working long hours with very little time for social interaction, let alone leisure time. Many professionals today work long 40-hour weeks in order to meet the demands of corporate America and the global economy.
In the home, minimalism can mean not having to keep up with the many demands put on you every single day. Your time is consumed by the children, your pets, and various responsibilities related to running a household. The result is that you spend a lot of time doing very little. In fact, most families nowadays live so close to their needs and wants that the family members rarely spend quality time together without some kind of pressure. This results in a variety of family problems, such as lack of communication, compromise on important issues, and poor bonding.
On the other hand, if you were to look at the modern world through the eyes of a minimalist, you would see an amazing abundance of freedom and leisure. Your life is filled with activities that make you truly enjoy yourself. There is no more need to juggle multiple responsibilities, and the only people you meet in your daily life are those who care about you and want nothing more than to see you succeed and have great success.
